1. Keeping Your Personal Data Updated in Neptun
To receive your monthly scholarship payments, it is mandatory to keep your Hungarian bank account number, address in Hungary, and Hungarian tax identification number correctly registered in Neptun. If these details are missing or incorrect, your payments cannot be processed.
If you have not updated them yet, please do so as soon as possible.
How to update your information in Neptun:

While you can enter your bank account number yourself, the address and tax ID must be updated by the Quaestura Office. Further details about the collation of personal data are available here (for English, check the box in the upper-right corner): Quaestura Office Information
2. In Case of Emergency – Contact Information (Highly Recommended)
We strongly recommend adding an official emergency contact in your Neptun. In case of any emergency, having up-to-date contact details helps us reach someone who can assist you.
Your emergency contact can be a family member, close friend, or any trusted individual.
How to add an emergency contact in Neptun:
Log into Neptun
Click on “My data”
Select “Contact information”
Choose “Contact person”
Click “Add new”
Fill in the required details
Click Save
This process takes less than two minutes and contributes to your safety and wellbeing.
3. Personal Check-in Requirement for the 2026/27/1 Semester
Another condition for receiving your monthly stipend and housing allowance if you have an active student status is completing an in-person check-in at your faculty’s international office. This is required under:
SH Operational Regulations III.3.12.
DFP Operational Regulations IV.3.13.
SCYP Operational Regulations III.2.5.
Scholarship holders must reside in Hungary and verify their presence accordingly.

Important:
Students who do not verify their presence in Hungary before the end of February will not be entitled to the February scholarship payment.
If you check in later, payments will resume from the month your presence is verified.

4. Residence Rules for SH Scholarship Holders
Scholarship holders are required to stay habitually in Hungary during their training period (1 training period is 1 academic semester including study and exam period).
Any absence must be reported to the University!
The scholarship holder's continuous private stay outside Hungary may not exceed 10 working days per training period.
In case the intended stay abroad for private purposes exceeds 10 working days but does not reach 30 days within a semester, it is the host institution’s responsibility to authorise the absence.
Abroad stays of more than 30 days per training period are subject to institutional authorisation, and may only be allowed in cases of childbirth, or in the event of an accident, illness or other unexpected reason beyond the scholarship holder’s control, in which cases the student status of the scholarship holder shall be suspended for the relevant training period.
During the training period, the scholarship holder is allowed to attend foreign conferences, internships, or other study-related stays abroad for a maximum of 30 days, while still being entitled to the contribution to accommodation costs and the monthly stipend.
Stay for the purpose of study-related stays but for more than 30 days per semester shall also be permitted only once per semester, in which case the scholarship and accommodation costs shall not be due to the scholarship holder for that training period and the institution receives the cost for the semester only if the stay is in the sending country, and in the case of a non-sending country it is only possible to receive an organisation allowance.
Scholarship holders in doctoral training may participate at student mobility abroad with the purpose of research for the duration of maximum one semester in both phase of doctoral studies. In their case the housing allowance and the monthly stipend shall be considered as mobility grants for this specified period.
If a student spends a longer period abroad without permission or does not maintain a valid Hungarian residence, their scholarship status may be terminated!
Summer and winter break
While scholarship holders are required to stay in Hungary during their training periods, it is allowed to visit their family or to participate in a vacation, summer camp, volunteering.
Please note that health insurance is only valid in Hungary. If you are planning a stay abroad, please ensure that you arrange international travel insurance!
5. Study Requirements
According to the Higher Education Act and the Scholarship Regulations, all scholarship holders are required to complete a minimum of 18 credits in each active semester. By the end of the academic year, students must have at least 36 completed credits; otherwise, they will lose their scholarship status.
Please also note that, in line with the regulations and the scholarship agreement, all SH and SCYP students are obliged to study Hungarian as a foreign language during their first two active semesters, while DFP students must study Hungarian throughout their entire studies. Therefore, we kindly ask you to carefully follow the information and instructions provided by your Faculty.
Hungarian language learning requirement off course not applicable for those whose academic programme is conducted in Hungarian.
Please note that the minimum credit and hungarian language learning requirements are not applicable to doctoral students.
Your scholarship expires after the number of semesters stated in your Scholarship Agreement. If you do not graduate within that time, you can only continue your studies as a self-paying student. Please make sure to take enough credits in the semesters to stay on track with your study schedule and complete your studies in time.
Please note that extension requests are evaluated very strictly, they are limited in number and are only approved under special circumstances.
6. VISA, Residence Permit and Public Healthcare Information
Please keep in mind the validity period of your residence permit and Taj card. If the expiration dates are already close, start the process of renewing your documents as soon as possible to avoid any issues.
Public healthcare services, as well as the English-language GP service by Semmelweis University can only be accessed with an active Taj card.
Residence permit and TAJ card validity are based on your active student status!
Please note that in a passive semester nor your residence permit nor your TAJ insurance will be valid.

The International Peer-Counselling Organisation (IPCO) at Eötvös Loránd University offers free peer-to-peer mental health support especially for international students. Qualified Psychology MA students—trained and supervised by licensed ELTE psychologists—provide a safe, confidential space for discussing issues such as anxiety, procrastination, self-esteem, study and relationship challenges. Each semester, students can attend six free 50-minute sessions, available in person or online.
